We hope you all are enjoying the first few signs of spring! 🌸 Spring signals the arrival of new beginnings, and the US recently saw a new proposed SEC rule that mandates the disclosure of climate related financial risks of publicly traded companies, providing investors relevant information for prudent financial decisions. The US is behind nearly 30 other economies that have already mandated such disclosures and is in the process of strengthening these rules. The proposed rule necessitates the reporting of carbon emissions directly related to a company’s operations, that is scope 1 and 2. Indirect emissions from the business supply chain will also have to be disclosed if they are material to the company or a target has been set for emission reduction.
This rule signals an increased demand for climate innovators who are providing solutions in climate risk analytics, carbon accounting and emission management companies. Moreover, this is a step forward in increasing demand for decarbonization technologies.
On the topic of decarbonization technologies, don’t forget to register for the Yale Clean Energy Conference on April 1st and 2nd, and join numerous other climate innovators and leading experts to discuss clean energy: justice, finance, technology, policy, and careers.
